Alberto, Lisa and Eleonora welcome you to Montaner, a charming little village nestled in the hills at the foot of the Cansiglio Forest, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view over the entire Venetian and Friulian plain, even glimpsing — weather permitting — the bell towers of Venice and the sea.
We are in Sarmede, then, a small municipality in the province of Treviso, a magical place. It was here that the Bohemian artist Stepan Zavrel chose to settle, and here he gave rise to the famous International Exhibition of Illustration for Children and the associated International School of Illustration, which for more than forty years now have represented a unique phenomenon on the national and European artistic and cultural scene. Zavrel, together with other local and international artists, has over time helped enrich the houses of the area’s villages with fantastic murals (there are more than eighty of them!), which now tell visitors the stories and traditions of these wonderful places.
